When Gisele Bundchen had her son, Benjamin, she delivered at home with her midwife and neonatal nurse, Mayra Calvetti. Her experience was so wonderful wants all women to know they have options when it comes to childbirth. On her personal website, Giselle shared, "When Mayra told me her idea about the Birth Around the World Project I thought it was a beautiful idea and knew that it would be really cool if she could share a little bit of this journey on my blog. I had the opportunity to experience the natural process of birth and it was one of the most life changing experiences for me and very, very special!" Giselle is not the first celebrity to endorse homebirth Birth Around the World was created by Mayra Calvetti and her husband, the businessman Enrico Ferrari. Since October 2011 they have embarked on a labor of love. Their goal is to visit 30 countries over nine months and learn about the different birthing methodologies used all over the world in an effort to help promote the humanization of birth. They started by traveling to Europe and have already been in countries where the public health system works and encourages natural childbirth like England, Netherland and Germany. Learn more about birth options with The Business of Being Born Giselle is very excited to be involved with a project that is so close to her heart. "I believe it’s a woman’s right to make the decision about how she’s going to give birth to her child. And it’s also her right to have access to the information she needs so she can make that decision from a place of awareness, and not a place of fear. I believe that sharing information and showing different ways of giving birth can help clear up some myths and misunderstandings about natural childbirth that for a long time was the only way of giving birth." What do you think about this project? Would you be interested in learning more about birth options? Kim Borchert is a homebirthing Mama of 5 who blogs daily at Prairie Mama.
