Woman delivers 14-lb baby without painkillers

Kendall Stewardson is one strong woman! The Des Moines, Iowa mother delivered a nearly 14 pound baby naturally -- without any pain medication whatsoever.

Baby Asher was born on January 27 at Mercy Medical Center -- without the aid of surgery and without an epidural for Mom. According to the Associated Press, Kendall and her husband worried that a C-section and/or pain meds might endanger her or the baby. And the brave mom has done this before. Asher's brother Judah, 15 months, weighed more than 12 pounds at birth.

Old-fashioned baby names: Cool, yet classic

Both parents and doctors were surprised by the size of Asher. "When he came out we all thought he was smaller [than Judah] and then we put him on the scale. We were very surprised, but he's three inches longer," Kendall tells WHO-TV. 

The National Council of Health Statistics reports that only one in 1,000 babies weigh more than 11 pounds at birth. 

Names inspired by The Hunger Games

Last July, 16-pound JaMichael "The Moose" Brown (pictured above) was born to a Texas couple. The newborn was the size of an average 6-month-old baby! In 2009, a 19-pound child broke national records in Indonesia, and in 2005, a 17-pound "giant baby" was born in Brazil. But the biggest baby ever recorded, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was born in Ohio in 1979 and weighed 23 pounds, 12 ounces.
