A spokesperson for the Spanish actress has confirmed that she is expecting her first child with husband Javier Bardem.

Penelope, whose baby bump was spotted on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is four-and-a-half months along.

Cruz has said, "I want to have my own kids, but also adopt. For awhile I've had the feeling that my life won't be complete if I don't adopt."

Cruz and Bardiem married secretly in a private ceremony in the Bahamas in July.

"I think I would be a perfect mother," Penelope said. "I love babies."
