The year is ending and it is time to see what the top baby names of 2011 were!  Was your favorite name on the list?

Since 1995, Jacob has been in the top 5, and since 1999 it has been number 1.  Is this the year Jacob is knocked from number 1? Cafe Mom conducted a survey of their readers and listed the favorite names for boys and girls.  The top 10 names for boys have changed up a bit from years past:

1. Liam

2. Noah

3. Logan

4. Mason

5. Jackson

6. Joshua

7. Hunter

8. Aiden

9. Isaac

10. Evan

And what about baby girl names? Since 2002 Emma has been in the top 4 spots of the Social Security Index along with Isabella, Olivia and Sophia.

1. Sophia

2. Emma

3. Olivia

4. Chloe

5. Lily

6. Madison

7. Amelia

8. Isabella

9. Abigail

10. Aubrey

While the official Social Security Index top baby names 2011 won't be out for a while longer, this gives us a pretty good clue as to what is popular and what is not.

When I have been pregnant, I have always looked to the Social Security list to check the popularity of a name.  I don't want my kids to be one of several in their classes with the same name, so that is something I take into consideration.  The further down on the list, the better for me.  However, I know not all people are like that.  There is a definite trend this year of naming after celebrity babies - like Mason Disick and movie characters - Isabella Swan.

When choosing a name for your baby, do you want the most popular name out there, or do you tend to look further down on the list for more obscure names?
