Frequent Urination

User Rating: / 4

As your abdomen grows during the first trimester, you will most likely start visiting the restroom more frequently.

Frequent urination is caused by two factors. The first is a hormone called hCG which increases blood flow downward to your kidneys and pelvic area, helping the uterus to grow and put pressure on your bladder.

Pelvic floor exercises may help strengthen pelvic muscles and prevent incontinence.  The fetus is positioned highest in the second trimester, putting the least pressure on the bladder and offering some relief.  Close to the time of delivery, the baby will drop lower into the pelvis to prepare for birth, once again putting pressure on the bladder.  It is very important to continue to drink plenty of fluids, as they are necessary for the health of both you and your baby.
