Connecticut parents named their babies similar to the rest of the country in 2010, but a few unique and trendy names snuck up in the top 50 for boys and girls. Names like Michael, Alexander, Isabella and Olivia were at the top of the charts, but what else made the top spots? Check it out!
Connecticut parents love traditional baby names, but also chose a few trendier selections as well. Michael, Alexander, Jacob, Matthew and Ryan attained the top 5 spots, with Ryan being the only anomaly when compared to the national popularity list (it was #23 in 2010). Boy names ending in an "n" sound were also very popular here -- Jayden, Ethan, Mason, Benjamin, Dylan, Aiden and Logan among some of the most popular selections. Classic names for boys and girls were also very popular, with William, Joseph, James, Julia, Charlotte and Victoria all appearing in the top 50. Another popular trend was names that are on the shorter side, particularly for girls -- Ava, Mia, Ella, Grace, Lily and Zoe were all short girl names chosen by Connecticut parents. Connecticut is a tiny state -- it is the 48th largest one in the United States! However, it has a bustling population and close proximity to New York, and is considered part of the metro NYC area. It was the 5th colony to become part of the United States and so has a long American history to go with its small size.
