Are you looking for that perfect Irish girl's name? Do you want your daughter to have an amazingly standout name that is truly unique? Irish names are distinctive and are rising in popularity around the world. Check out the most unique Irish names for girls, along with their pronounciations and meanings!

Irish girlMany beautiful Irish names come directy from Irish legends, history or mythology. They are a great source for not only names but a story behind the names. These may not be modern names but they are rich in meaning and character.

A good example is the name Macha which appears on our list below. This name comes from Irish mythology and there are a number of stories in which she appears. In one story, she is the wife of a farmer who was instructed to not speak of her to outsiders. When he went to a festival, he boasted of his wife to the other onlookers and said that his wife could run faster than the king's horses. The king overheard and subsequently demanded that she be put to the test. Macha arrived, won the race and then gave birth to twins on the finish line. She did, in turn, curse the men of the town to suffer labor pains when they were in battle so none of them were able to fight. What a gal!

These names are a good place to start if you're looking for something a little more uncommon, and even the Anglicized (making a name into an English form) versions of these names may be unique as well.
