Baby Name Trends

Traditional names, such as Caleb, Oliver and Beckett, are making the moves up the baby name list. It is also interesting to note that names indicating direction, such as Easton and Weston, are both on the list.  Boy names with a country twang or sound to them, such as Blake, Wyatt, Colt and Levi are making an appearance on the list. The Social Security Administration (SSA) notes that names rhyming with "maiden," such as Jayden, Caden and Hayden, make up 3.7% of the top 1000 baby names!

Baby Names Biggest Movers

The SSA reports that Cullen is the boy's name rising the fastest, thanks to the popularity of Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga. It seems Elvis' influence is still present, as the names King and Memphis are both climbing the charts. The name Messiah is climbing the charts, showing the influence of religion on baby names. Thanks to the president, the name Barack has moved up the chart 431 spots in one year.

The boy's names that had the biggest drop in popularity were Brett (thanks to Brett Favre?), Jonas (Jonas brothers?) and Alvin (and the chipmunks?).
