Much like the Social Security Administration's list of top 100 baby names in the United States, the CSO collects data for every child born in the country of Ireland. These lists were generated in 2009 and reflects the most recent information on what moms and dads are naming their little ones in Ireland.

The top name for boys was Jack, followed closely by Sean and Conor. Notable (and quite Irish-sounding) names for boys include Oisin (pronounced OH sheen), Eoin (variation of the name John) and Cathal (meaning "battle rule"). For girls, Ava was tops, with Katie and Sarah following close behind. Distinct female Irish names that made the list were Aoife (pronounced EE fya), Caoimhe (pronounced KEE vah) and Orlaith (meaning "golden queen").
