It is interesting to note that even though James was a popular name prior to 2000, it is not even on the top 25 for this decade!  Jacob has been the most popular baby boy name since 1999.  Before Jacob reigned supreme, Michael was the top name from 1968 until 1998! The name Joshua has never been number one, but has remained in the top five until 2009.

Sophia was the most popular baby girl name for 2010, but prior to that Isabella was the most popular name for two years in a row. Emily, however, has had the longest run nabbing the top spot from 1996 until 2007! Emma was the most popular girl name in 2008, while Madison has never been the top name, but has remained in the top five consistently.

What new baby name trends might we see in the next decade? Many parents are embracing old fashioned names, such as Milo and Penelope, because they are timeless and never go out of style. Creative new names and modern sounding names, such as Brantley, Iker and Briella are also moving up the charts.
