The Social Security Administration has released the list of the top baby names of 2011 – and Sophia gets the honor of being the most popular baby girl name of the year. Sophia climbed to the top spot as the most popular baby girl name of 2011, knocking Isabella down to the second spot after two years. Mia climbed up one more spot, pushing Chloe down to the second position. It is interesting to note that many of the top baby girl names end in –a (such as Olivia, Mia, Sophia) and many parents are choosing old fashioned baby names.

How long will the old-fashioned baby name trend continue? The baby girl names that are rising the fastest in popularity are more trendy then classic. The name Briella is the baby girl name climbing the charts the fastest, possibly after Jerseylicious reality star, Briella Calafiore? The name Angelique is also making a fast climb to the top, as is Aria, Mila – and Bristol, possibly after Bristol Palin?

Also note that virtue names, such as Grace, Faith, Trinity, Serenity, Genesis and Destiny are also climbing the charts.
