When Jen Gluff of Austin, TX was in high school, she came up with a baby name she loved, Azea (A-zay-a). She knew that Motherhood was not in the near future for her, but she dreamed of this little girl. Her Junior Year in College she and her husband learned they were expecting a baby. She knew in her heart, this was her Azea.

She says that during her pregnancy boy names were thrown around, just in case, but there was never any doubt in her mind that this was her daughter, Azea.

Jen is a bit of a “earth child” so when people hear her daughter's name, they often ask, "Is that a desert moon flower or something?".  While Azea has had to deal with mispronunciation often, people always comment on her beautiful name. The now 14 year old Azea doesn't mind her unique name. In fact, Jen says Azea loves it. She understands spelling and repeating her name for people is just part of having a beautifully unique name.

Jen went on to have two more children, Talia and Rylan.  Growing up with one of the most common names, she has loved giving her children names that they won't have to share.

In this day and age unique names are not so uncommon. Spellings like Madisyn, Cristyn, and Emmalee are seen all the time. When choosing a unique name for your baby, it is important to remember that while you may love the name or the spelling, they are the ones who will have to repeat and spell it for people all their lives.

My niece, Krezenz, usually goes by K.C., but like Azea, loves her unique name. She loves that no one else will ever have her same name and that it truly makes her one of a kind.

Sometimes baby names are not unique, they are just weird.
