Finding the perfect baby name is a hard enough task without having to battle with your partner over which name to choose. So, how do you tell your partner that you secretly hate his favorite baby name? Check out these tips and you may even talk him into your favorite baby name!
When it comes to giving your pea in the pod a label for life, find the perfect baby name is no small task. But, what if your partner loves a name that you just can't stand? Before you go along with a name you don't like, or, spit on the name and declare it unfit for any child of yours, check out these tips on how to tell you partner that you secretly hate his favorite baby name.
Let him down easy
Before you take his hand and gently let him in on the bad news that you do not like his favorite baby name, be prepared to make some other suggestions so you can work towards finding a name you both love. Simply locking horns on the baby name discussion won't get you anywhere.
Listen to his side
If you want to be fair when you play the baby name game, ask him why the moniker you despise is his favorite baby name. If he loves the label Madison because it was his favorite great grandmother's name, chances are you may change your mind about the handle. So, give him a chance to explain!
Offer up alternative baby names
Once you know why he loves the name, do your research and find some other names he may love just as much. Many baby names have monikers that either sound similar or have a similar meaning. Does he love the name Isabella because it ends in a vowel? Try and find names you like such as Emma, Sophia, or Ava. Does he like the name Jacob because it has a built-in nickname? Then suggest names you like such as Michael, Alexander, William, or Daniel.
Find common baby name ground
Still trying to sway his vote? Then the next step is for each of you to make a baby names list and compare for names. If you find any label, such as Ethan, Noah, Olivia, or Emily, on both your lists then hopefully you can put the kibosh on your baby name smack down.
Meet in the middle
Sometimes, finding compromise is the only answer...even when it comes to finding the perfect baby name. If your partner is adamant about his love for his favorite baby boy or baby girl name, then to keep the peace, suggest making the moniker your baby's middle name. This way, he still gets to call his sweetie pie his favorite handle, even if it is only when his kiddo is in hot water.
Don't have the courage to tell your partner face-to-face that you secretly hate his favorite baby name? Then grab a card or stationary and let your feelings flow. Because, no matter how you choose to let him know, your negative feelings about daddy-to-be's favorite baby name is something you shouldn't keep a secret from him, especially when it is a name you'll have say every day for the rest of your life!
