I am pregnant with my 5th son, and am looking for a name..there is nothing much I like that has not already been taken by friends and family, that myself and my partner can agree on..apart from Kian.. (my partner has irish roots, and three of the others have irish names!although they are not necessarily traditional irish names!). I just wish this name had a different meaning in a sense, as ancient isn't as meaningful as I would have hoped. I still like it though..so who knows!
Well - then take the other root ...

In persia the meaning is "King".

However, there is also a african root based on the name Kia which meaning is "Hill".

I am a German - my wife is Ugandan. We did not chose the name because of the root or the meaning but simply we liked it. We decided to call our baby Kian if it is a boy or Kiana if it is a girl (we did not know what it is before birth).

Soe we called our son Kian and I have to say, he really behaves like a King standing on the top of the hills. I therefore like more the african/asian interpretation/meaning.

So now it is up to you to decide what you like most :-)

our son also got the name Kian.... it does have different meanings in different languages... in persian it indeed means little king, in arabic it means existence, in a slightly different spelling/pronunciation (Gyan) it means center of knowledge in sanskrit... and only 4 letters!
