Correction on meaning
written by Krissy Mitchener, November 12, 2007
My husband's Grandmother is Pure Icelandic and named Svanhildur, which means "the afterbirth of the cow" but is in no way a bad description. The true meaning of it is an honourable thing because it means "sack of life" Just a little FYI for all. Have a Great Day

My mother named me svana 40 years ago.I was the only girl amongst 4 brothers.
Every day someone comments on the origin.
Interesting to note that i have 4 brothers; mark, darren, jamie and mathew. couldn't get any more anglo saxon.

It has nothing to do with afterbirth of a cow. I can't even imagine how anyone could come to this conclusion. As it says in the meaning it is a combination of swan and battle
