Lakeland

My son's name is Lake (Lakeland is the closest thing I can find to it on baby name websites). It is not short for anything - it was his great-great grandfather's middle name. I am not sure where his middle name came from (I'm still looking into that), but my husband wanted a one syllable family name to call our son, and he didn't want to use the common names - Will, etc. that could be found all over the family tree. We have really loved his name - and it fits him to a tee! All I have to do is say his first name anywhere we go (doctor's office, school, etc.) and people know exactly who he is - no first initial of the last name has to be put next to Lake like so many others do...Alex P, Alex T, Alyssa G, Alysa J, etc. The only thing that frustrates me is that when people meet him, they many times think we have said Blake. I always have to end up saying "Just like the water - not named after water, but just like the water." But even with that...just so you know, I wouldn't change a thing if I had to do it over again!
