Is it ok to name your baby after ...
By krazykutie 6 Months Ago
My dog Preston was my best friend for a long time. That is until he died a year and a half ago. I had him since I nine, I'm 26 now. We were attatched at the hip and when he passed it was really hard on me. My husband and I have been married for six years and we have tried to have kids since we first got married as we've both always wanted a big family. After years of trying for a child I am pregnant. Preston was with me through all the years of failed pregnancy. Is it horrible of me to honor the memory and friendship of Preston by naming my child after him. I honestly love that name and It's not as though I'm naming my child rover or fido ... It is a name. What are your thoughts. Would it give the child a complex that they are named after a dog??

I wouldn't. However important this dog was to you, in the end it was just a pet, whereas this is your child. Weren't there family members, like parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, who were more important to you than your dog?

Sorry, JMO...

Hmm I'm not really sure how I feel about it, I wouldn't want to be named after a family pet. But since you and your husband both like the name maybe use it as a middle?

Like you said, it's a legitimate name. I think I'd probably keep it as the middle name, though, so when he hears about it he won't totally flip out over being named after a dog. I understand the sentiment behind it, but if I were a kid in that position I may wonder about my parents' choice.
