Like you, I liked the name Max, but not Maxwell or Maximillian. Now that I watch "dancing with the stars" on TV I see the male dancer Maxim, and I really like that name. Much better than Maximus IMO.
There is also Maxfield and Maximo.Maddox, and I think Max is better as ann than Mad.

Luke and Max are great on their own. strong names, but you could give them more formal mn's.For example Max Benjamin and Luke Nicholas, or Luke Alexander and Max Anthony.

Now, for Luke, Lukan,Luka,Lucius, (tho that looks like luscious to me)Lucian or Lucien.

Sorry I could not be of much help, but ther are not many alternatives to those names, so just use the names as you want to call them.

Maxton was a name on my list because I like the nn Max, but like you, I didn't like Maxwell, Maximus, etc... We've decided to go with something else entirely though

But why not skip the long formal version and just go with Max?

Same for Luke.

Names don't have to be short for anything. If you just like Max and Luke, then go with that.

Why not simply Max and Luke ( or Leo ) ?

Curious as to why you feel you need to have/ use another version of the name you like ?

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. I really appreciate it.

To answer your questions, the only reason I wanted to use a longer version of Max is so that it sounds better with the middle name we would like to use. We are planning to use Richard as the middle name for one baby boy and Graham as the middle name for the other. Luke Richard and Leo Graham actually sound fine with just the short versions but Max Richard or Max Graham just don't flow right. Too choppy sounding to me so I was hoping to find a longer name for Max that I like. I actually have a 2 1/2 year old ds whose name is Jake. Just Jake since I'm not crazy about Jacob either. So I guess using the short versions of which ever name I choose would just be following the what I already did with my first son.

Anyway, thank you for all your help.

You could use Mackerley Graham, and Langley Richard.
Mack --- for short -------- Lee for short
