Anyone else with sugar problems? By happy2bme 7 Months, 3 Weeks Ago I went to the dr Monday at 17 wks 2 days, and had the glucose test done...which I know is normally done between 24-28 wks, but my dr does everyone early. Well, my sugar was I think 151 or one fifty something, and should have been below 140, which isn't too terribly high, but it is high. So he wants to go ahead and put me on the diet. I am high risk, so maybe that's one reason he just wants to go ahead and do it. But does anyone have any ideas where I could find a variety of food choices? I met with the dietician yesterday and went over the carb counting and stuff, it just seems kind of complicated. I wish I just had someone to fix my meals and snacks for me that knows what to do and just sit it in front of me instead of trying to figure it all out, lol. Anyone else feel this way, or know of any good sites that are helpful in meal planning? Thanks. Oh, and one other thing...I just feel like I'm not getting enough to eat at one time because I still feel hungry after eating my limits! But maybe I'm just used to eating too many carbs, which fill me up.

By sugaface5 7 Months, 3 Weeks Ago I had gestational diabetes with my first 2 and just prior to getting pregger with #3 I was diagnosed with type 2. What has worked for me is:
for mornings and late evenings eat a lot of protein: For breakfast: I eat an egg sand w/2 slices of whole wheat bread and water or 3 slices of turkey bacon w/2 slices of whole wheat bread or maybe some high fiber oatmeal w/bacon crumpled in it. late night snacks: turkey bologna and whole wheat crackers, yogurt, ***I have to steer clear of cereal in the morning and for late night snacks..my blood sugar levels go crazy. I also cut back on most beverages..even 100% juices..they make my sugars spike and if I really have to have juice, I mix it with water. Drink water as much as possible. I save my carbs for morning snack & lunches - since I am running around a lot, I tend to get lower numbers...also, the times when I don't eat as well as I should, I make a special effort to do about 15-20 minutes of movement - walking in my living room, a workout dvd, laundry...you would be surprised at how drastically your sugar levels can drop with just a little exercise. I ABSOLUTELY PRAY EACH TIME I CHECK MY BLOOD SUGARS. As a result of the above: My fasting level is regularly less than 90 My after breakfast levels average 106 After lunch: 112 After dinner: 112 I Hope this helps...I don't believe in luck..so I wish you all the best in your journey

Re:Anyone else with sugar problems? By Lorrie 7 Months, 1 Week Ago I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 10. So I don't know how much gestational diabetes differs.
I do know that proteins like peanut butter, cheese, and eggs will stabilize your blood sugar and help you to feel fuller. Carbs are still important and it is impossible to have a balanced diet without them, so switching complex carbs instead of simple carbs is a good idea too. I'm sure ADA (American Diabetes Association) will have some good info about diabetes care. Remember, protein, protein, protein! Good luck!

Re:Anyone else with sugar problems? By Nikki_Noodle 7 Months Ago I am on my 3rd pregnancy with gestational diabetes, and I know how you feel! My 1st pregnancy I was just devastated and had no idea what to do even after meeting with the dietician. If you are looking for something easier and quick which is what I need having other little ones to chase after I get lean cuisines, smart ones, and healthy choice. I try to get that ones that have about 30 or so carbs then I have a small salad or some fruit. Remember that you have to have snacks to keep your hunger in check. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, etc. If I am hungry I will have some grapes, or a small salad, or some carrots. You don't have to be hungry, and you shouldn't. You just have to be reasonable. Please feel free to contact me anytime you need a buddy!
