Hannah Caroline
By happy2bme 4 Months, 2 Weeks Ago
We are about 8 wks away from having our Hannah Caroline My question is, what do you do when you and your husband can't agree on which name to call her? I believe he has his heart set on calling her Hannah, and I want to call her Caroline. He said we could call her Caroline, but seems disappointed when he says it. Well, my reasoning is, I love the name Hannah, but it is used sooo much and Caroline is less common. Also, we had Caroline picked out before Hannah (our son was going to be Caroline if he'd been a girl-it was my sister's mn) Hannah is very special the way we came up with it (without even talking about it-we both thought of it together and then there's a special story behind it-Hannah in the Bible who wanted a baby so bad, and we've tried for 3 years and have prayed so much for this baby). Also, he pretty much got his way on what we call our son (we agreed on his names, but I had wanted to call him one thing, but my husband insisted on another, so that's what he is). So, any suggestions? Let me also add, his parents are set on Hannah, my dad is set on Hannah (even though it was my sister's name, he admits he wasn't crazy about it), others are set on Caroline...right now we refer to her as both, but I'd like to to be one or the other really. If she goes by both, not only is it very long but I know it would eventually get shortened to Hannah. I know what other people think really doesn't matter, it is up to us. But anyway, just trying to decide and I hate for my husband to be upset about it, so don't know what to do. Of course the main thing is that this little blessing arrives safe and as healthy as possible!

Congrats!! anyway i'll have to agree with your husband...& well all the others! Hannah sounds beautiful, it's common yeah but considering it has so much of both your personal stories behind it, it's bound to be real special!! Good luck!!

If I was you I would just call her by both names until she's old enough to decide what she wants to be called. It sounds like she'll be getting called by both names individually enough anyway so there really isn't any reason to confuse her more at home. If you and your hubby call her Hannah Caroline all the time at home she'll be more likely to respond to either name individually with the rest of the family.

There is a good chance you will end up calling her neither name. She may be a Boodge, Bug, Pooh, Sugar, Princess, Nan, Babygirl, or one of a million of the other nicknames that just seem to pop up because they fit the kid so perfectly. She will probably end up called Hannah at school, and in her professional life, so you might do your best to come to terms with that.

You could name her Carol-Anna instead, and then you both get your way.

Nope, no nicknames. We have actually come up with a solution. There will be 1 of 2 options that my family can call her. Hannah Caroline, or Caroline. I talked to my friend and that is what she did with her daughter, who now goes by her middle name, and she would correct people if they did otherwise. As for my husband, he did get to choose what we call our son and I wasn't crazy about it at first till I got used to it, so this is a compromise and he says he is fine with it. Thanks for the advice, though!

Oh, and Oracle09, Caroline is just as special as Hannah, because it was the name my mom and grandmother picked for my sister's mn...all 3 have passed away (my mom when I was 8 yrs old and my sister was 5..then my sister passed away when she was 15)and my grandmother was our second mom...so anyway, it just makes that name very special all the way around, and it is what my husband and I have always said we'd name a girl
