Dont even bother because I took it and it didnt do anything...other people took it to and it didnt work...all it does is taste really nasty and make you gag....forget it and just be patient you cant make the baby come when you want...good luck...

i did the castor oil trick as it was something my mother told me helped when she was over due with me, and as i was overdue with a 10lb baby, i wanted the thing OUT!!!
the only thing it did was give me diarrhea and vomiting,((i had to be induced at 41 weeks)) as granny nora said, take ur hubby to bed, shag his brains out, have a hot shower then take a brisk walk, i bet u will b in labor within 24 hrs after that....

thanks everyone for your comments. I did take the caster oil but it did not work for me. I decided to take it after a lot of research on the internet, making sure there would be no risk to my unborn baby. I am worried that she'll be as big or bigger than my 1st child who was 10lbs 6oz! But I will now stick to old wives tales and hope she comes soon.

Your child will come out when he or she is ready. Just be patient. Take some long walks, hot showers etc. Good luck with your delivery.

Castor oil is a harsh laxative. It causes intestinal cramping which can stimulate the uterus to contract. While it isn't harmful to the baby, you risk a massive case of the runs and that can lead to dehydration which isn't the way you want to head in to the battle of birth.
A more natural (and possible more fun) way to go about bringing on the contractions is with nipple stimulation. Doctors frequently have a mother breast feed soon after birth to cause the uterus to contract and expell any extra bits left behind and to help it get back to it's normal shape.
You can do it yourself, have your partner do it, or if they are really adventuress, have them do a little "breast feeding practice".

Warning, don't do any of this before your dr says your full term.
