Stem cell research?
By Melanie0205 3 Years, 6 Months Ago
I know I keep getting into highly controversial topics, and I don't mean to start fights, I'm only trying to better educate myself about important things. I'm wondering what any of you can tell me about stem cell research. I know that the cells can be taken from embryos (FYI, abortion) and that this research could help cure many diseases. Any thoughts?

I'm obviously against it. I don't know a lot about the topic, but I know enough.

Oh, Im glad you posted this today. I was going to post one too, asking how many of you mothers will be saving your embylical cords, for this very successful treatment possibility. I understand this has alot of beneficial results, and it would certainly be one that I would be taking advantage of, if I was to have a child now. You have an opportunity to reap benefits by saving your embryonic tissues.

Tell me what the processes are - Im sure your gyno could advise you.

I'm for stem cell research bcuz its not jus from embryos anymore. the same methods can be used on a babies cord blood too. which i fully plan on banking my babies.

My mom has MS and stem cell research could one day cure that.

Generva and i posted at the same time and know a bunch about the processes of banking cord blood.

when the baby is born, after the baby has been cut from the umbilical cord, a nurse will clean a 4-10 inch piece of the cord and cut it off. Most hospitals do not have their own banks so you have to order a kit. If you have multples you have to order a kit for each one and you'll usually get a discount on multiples.

Be sure to research the Cord blood bank you choose and ask your dr as they usually have their own lists. There are no difinitive rules to cord blood banking yet but look for one accredited by the blood bank of your country.
