5 month old in the ocean?? By Gracie1 11 Months, 4 Weeks Ago Okay, so my dad's house is on the beach (I currently live in West Glamorgan, Wales till august.. I don't know if I've mentioned that since I'm England a majority of the time) so I was thinking I'd take Sophia to the beach friday afternoon since it's suppose to rain in afternoon tomorrow! She's been to the beach before millions of times but I've never taken her all the way into the water! I'll typically just dip her feet in there and she loves it!
But I know they say no chlorine till 6(??) months. I didn't know if they have an age the say is best to be in the beach. I'll probably take her into the water regardless unless it's really bad for her! I mean her feet have never had an issue with the water.. (it's 3 in the morning! please excuse mixed up words and what not!)

Re:5 month old in the ocean?? By Alisamber 11 Months, 4 Weeks Ago LOL. I thought from the title this was going to be a news story on a missing child/murder case or something.

Re:5 month old in the ocean?? By Gracie1 11 Months, 4 Weeks Ago Sorry for the confussion Alisamber!
And Emily- I know that! But I was meaning the all the salt from the ocean.. I was wondering if it's really bad for her skin! I know stupid question but my stepmum told me I'm crazy and it's absolutely just horrible for a baby's skin to be in the ocean while my dad on the other hand said their is nothing wrong with it! So I was just curious!

Re:5 month old in the ocean?? By Meaghan C. 11 Months, 4 Weeks Ago As long as she's wearing sunscreen and a life jacket, and gets a bath and lotion afterwards I see no problems with her going to the ocean. I'm not a dermatologist, though, and I've never been to the ocean personally so I don't know what effect (if any) it will have on her skin.

Re:5 month old in the ocean?? By MissMachiavellia 11 Months, 3 Weeks Ago It shouldn't be an issue. Salt water is fine, in fact very good for healing small cuts etc (and for us older people, a great exfoliant) ... The only thing you have to watch out for is the baby getting too cold in the water, as once it starts it will happen very quickly. If you're worried about their skin drying out use a moisture rich baby wash in the bath that night.
I have no problem throwing babies in water (lol you know what I mean), they love it, I mean they do spent their first 9 months swimming after all.
