confessions of a paranoid premie parent By Natalia 3 Years, 6 Months Ago I've come to conclusions that I'm crazy. I'm so protective of my Ella, I've decided its weird. I bought a box of gloves and face masks and I make people wear them when their around them. I steralize myself compulsevly before I nurse her. When she sleeps I watch her bassinet like a hawk. I only visit Shea for 15 mins a day because I'm afraid Ryan we'll miss handle or make Ella sick. I have antibacterial hand soap EVERYWHERE! Ryan and I take showers 2-3 times a day with antibacterial body soap.
I think I'm getting WAY too creepy about this?

Re:confessions of a paranoid premie parent By LilLoveAnd4 3 Years, 6 Months Ago Maybe a little crazy LOL. But it's normal. she is very delicate, and you are her mother. As long as it doesn't continue forever, because when she is stronger she will need to develop immunities.

By leftAndGone 3 Years, 6 Months Ago I think your concern is understandable, because Ella is a very preemie baby, of course you will be so nervous around her. I'm sure I will be so nervous too when I have my baby out. And I also will be afraid of my boyfriend who is so careless and messy all the time, might actually get my baby sick in his early days of life.
But Natalia, you are already doing a great job as a mother. Try not to stress yourself out so much, get some help from friends or family. Find somebody you can trust to watch Ella for like a day, so that you can spend more time visiting Shea and also get enough rest for yourself to continue on. Although I don't have any religion, but I constantly hope things go well for your family in my mind, guess I can call that sort of praying. But you're very strong, and I know you can get through this hardship.

Re:confessions of a paranoid premie parent By ashleym09 3 Years, 6 Months Ago Although I think that its great to be so cautious with her health and safety, it might be a little too much. I know that its crucial to keep her healthy but not exposing her to anything might make it worse when she does catch a little cold. I"m not saying that you shouldn't be clean and protective but in reality its ok to let your guard down a little. The NICU where I had my daughter doesn't even require you to wear a mask unless you have a cold or the baby is very fragile. I think its ok to let people take off the masks as long as they are healthy and have cleaned their hands. Having a few little germs here and there will help her body learn to fight infections. Its only normal. But keep up the good job...

Re:confessions of a paranoid premie parent By puck 3 Years, 6 Months Ago youre not being crazy. it is your job as a parent to protect your child, and you are doing what you feel is necessary. but i do think you need to let ryan handle ella more.if you let him learn now, it will be easier on everyone in the future. im not trying to criticize, just saying he wont break her. show him what to do, he can be a big help if you let him. good luck.

Re:confessions of a paranoid premie parent By KitKat 3 Years, 6 Months Ago It's better by safe than sorry but children need some germ-exposition. Their immune system is strengthened by this. I don't think you're crazy, just a little bit over-protective.
What does doctors say? Is it crucial to keep Ella's environment that clean? If they say no, try to loosen your germ control a bit. It will be better for her then. I'm sure almost every new mother feels over-protective. Just trust your partner, he loves the girls as much as you do. Relax, your babies need you strong and serene. Hope everything will be great. Good luck!
