Do you think this will work?
By Shann 11 Months, 1 Week Ago
I've been trying to find articles on the web on how to teach a baby to stand unassisted, but I could barely find any! I did manage to find one that was possibly helpful, though. It suggested holding the baby's thighs while they are standing up and then let go when you think they are balanced enough. I guess it sounds logical!

Do you think this could work? I am dying to try it out on Noah, but he is having a nap right now, lol. Any other tips on how to help?

*Note: Noah can stand and walk around the furniture, but the next thing he has to learn is standing without holding on to anything, so hopefully he will start taking steps! Fingers crossed! It's been a long time coming, but I notice him getting stronger

Thanks

Put Noah in the middle of a room with nothing around him. Face him, and let him hold onto your hands. Gradually and slowly pull your hands away, but be ready to assist him if he starts to fall, or wants to sit down. Praise him when he stands unassisted even if only for a couple of seconds. When you want him to walk have a treat or favorite toy to entice him to come to you. Not far..just so it's a few steps out of his reach. Keep increasing the distance as he makes progress. Keep practicing, and he'll eventually get the hang of both. Good Luck!

Hmm, would leg braces help him? Maybe the type that are hard plastic that you put into the shoes then they go up the leg, they might help to keep him sort of sturdy. So that his ankles can't wolbol. Um what about walking shoes, the kind that are hard soled, and higher up to the ankel?
I found this site/blog, these are sort of the kind of braces that I ment,

and then a shoe with a higher part up to the ankel,

oh, I have an after thought, don't know if it's any help but what about swimming? Would that help with anything? Strenght wise or something?
Sorry I couldn't be any more help.
Good luck!

Thanks Angel I've just got to get him to let go of my hands!

@Unique names - I don't think he really needs leg braces, it's more his ankles they roll in quite far, which makes it hard for him to balance. He does have some shoes like the ones in the second link, though He does a bit of swimming, but not much lately, as it is winter. Not sure if it really helps his ankles, but I guess it can't hurt Thanks!

Hey, Shann, I read your comment wrong, hence, the reason for this drastic edit.

So...Don't let Noah hold onto you...you hold onto him (his upper arms), and let go slowly.

Oh! Always have his special shoes on for these exercises! They will give him some added support. Again...so happy for you and Noah. I know his mobility has been a real concern for you, and I'm so happy he's making progress! Good Luck!

Get him up by the side of some soft furniture, couch, chair, etc. Take is favorite toy and hold it out to him, just slightly too far for him to reach. If he stands alone and tries to reach for it, praise him and set him up again, holding the toy a little further out. You will probably have to do it a million and one times, but his gives his own brain a chance to learn to balance, and before you know it he will take a step.

Did you know that if you have a problem in your semicircular canals in your ear it brings on horrible spinning dizziness? The amazing thing is that, given a couple of days, the brain will retrain itself to the new normal. With certain exercises it will regain balance quicker, sometimes within 24 hours. Of course when the problem resolves, the brain again has a little relearn curve, but it is much shorter. The human brain is amazing.
