Potty Training
By monkeys1315 1 Year Ago
Does anyone have any tips that worked really well when they were potty training? Marina is 2 and a half and I've been trying for about 4 months and she just doesn't seem interested in using the little potty I bought her. I tried giving her candy, which my mother in law said worked for Brandon, but she doesn't really like it much and i've tried telling her what a big girl she'll be in big girl undies but it hasn't worked either. Any thing that worked well with you guys?

My little sister used a chart and she got a star sticker every time she went to the bathroom "by herself". She loved the stickers, and I think she got a prize when she filled the list from Toys R Us or something like that.

Good luck!!!

Don't push it. She'll do it when she's ready. My mom has always told me that I was really stubborn about potty training. One day when I was three I just suddenly decided I wasn't going to wear diapers any more. According to my mom I told her "big girls don't wear diapers" out of the blue one day and that was that.

My oldest was over three when she was finally potty trained, too. She decided on her own that she wanted to wear big girl panties, so we put her in training pants for a few weeks. She had several accidents, but it really wasn't that bad when she finally had everything figured out.

Kaia is about the same age as Marina is and although she knows how to change her own diaper and has sat on the toilet on her own before she doesn't really seem too interested in actually potty training. It's just a game to her right now. I'm not going to stress over it, though. She'll let us know when she's ready.

Bottom line, Marina will figure it out when she's ready and you're really just stressing yourself out worrying about it when she's not interested yet.

My little one potty is 19 months and I’ve just started with the potty training. I recently read an article written by a doctor that says you should be potty training your kids at around 18 months. The age when they naturally learn to “push”, (12 to 18 months), is the time when you should put them on a potty chair. You need to watch out for “potty signs” and help him/her along the way. The older they are the more difficult it is to learn new habits that are different from the ones they already know. But with that said, most kids will learn eventually by age 4. We just got a potty chair – a lovely princess seat from aBaby.com, but right now my baby still seems a little frightened to use it .
