Pumping breastmilk (continued)
By happy2bme 1 Year, 2 Months Ago
I think I may know what is wrong now. I noticed a week ago or so that I was bleeding on my left side when I pumped. It's just like a little spot where the skin broke from the friction. It bled tonight when I pumped, and got into the milk which I am going to dump. Do you think it may have caused the problem with me hurting on that side with the fever on Saturday and the reason I am having the shooting pain because it is on that side near the spot. I don't know what to do about it because I don't need to stop pumping. But when I pump, it irritates it more.

That very well could be it. It sounds like an infection, which antibiotics can clear up, or you can probably wait it out unless it gets worse. And I know this sounds gross, but unless its a lot, a few drops of blood mixed in with breastmilk will not harm baby. Because when you have mastitis or other breast infection, the best thing to do is nurse and pump as much as possible and, without you realizing it, baby swallows blood and gunk from the infection. Like I said, that sounds so gross, so you do with it what you will lol, just letting you know....I hope you get it all straightened out very soon. Good luck to you
