I used to write all the time, and the other day I found this story I started years ago. The general storyline is this:

A little girl is living in the Deep South with her mother, a drunk and a prostitute. As a young teenager, the girl meets a man from the city and falls in love with him. He takes her to the city, but when they arrive, she finds he has many different "girlfriends". She leaves him, but is having trouble making it on her own in the city. Eventually, she finds a steady job, gets married, kids, etc. All the time, the story is flashing back and forth between the girl and her mother, chronicling how her mother attempts to recover from her alcoholism and gets cleaned up. But, after about ten or so years out of touch with her mother, the girl finds her mother has died. She goes back home and while cleaning out her mother's things, finds he reasons behind her alcoholism and all the other problems they were having.

Do you guys think this is any good? And also, any ideas for names of the girl, her mother, and the guy? This doesn't take place at any specific time period, maybe pre-Civil War era. Thanks for having the patience to read all of this!!!!

tell the truth im only 15 but i wanted this but i have lived like that before but only my mother being like that i left and she moved to another state i took care of my 2 year old brother when they came home from the hospital when i was 9 i want to keep my baby and i want them to grow and to know that i would never let them live their life like i did

The golden rule about time setting is to write about something you have experienced or you know enough to make a pseudo-experience. If you know loads about pre-Civil War period, write about it.

ummm 1st of all i wud totally read that book and 2nd of all what about the little grls name is Adelyn or Lyndia-these 2 names could be for the mom also but i think the little grl should have a really cutesy name....for the guy name i think it should be Rudy
