our dentist actually said to use adult toothpaste when they get theyr teeth cos theres not enough fluoride in the kids toothpaste and in our water over here.. hmmm.
but yeah, talk to your dentist

I agree with everyone here. There are a lot of toothpaste brands made just for babies, but you should consult with a dentist to determine whether or not they are appropriate for your child. It's a case by case basis. We're in the Ohio area and there are a ton of cincinnati dentists to choose from, so we have options. If you're not sure, consult with one first. Better to be safe than sorry.

I am a dental hygienist, but I don't necessarily agree with the rest of dentistry about the need for fluoride, or even toothpaste in general. My six year old still uses fluoride-free tp. I let my 9 yr old use whatever kind of tp he likes, because I know he's good to not swallow it. With my 3yr, I often just use a wet brush. It really doesn't matter much what kind of tp you use, if any. The most important thing is that you're brushing and flossing correctly and consistently. Literally disrupting the plaque at the gumline manually. I would agree that people's genetics and their habits do affect how cavity-prone or gum disease-prone they are, but it's a combination.
