I have always known Lewis to be a boys name but, Morgan was typically a boys name too and it's my daughter's name, spelled Morgann. We are also considering Kendall and Paige for future childeren and they were both originally boys names.
I say if you like it, go for it.

Thanks a lot for all the honest answers! You've helped us to make a choice.
I think we'll let some other parents do the pioneer-work so that people get used to this name for a girl. And maybe in 30 years time our kids can call their daughter Lewis.

I knew a girl called Luice, said exactly the same as Lewis just spelt differently. She was Swiss I think...

congrats on your decision.. I know neither a boy or girl with that name.. but where Im from I have family with that as a last name.
but if something about that name struck you then maybe like the other ladies said use a form of like:
Lois, Louise, Louisa, Luca, Lucy... lol Congrats on expecting and best wishes..let us know what you decide

I don't know that it s a good idea. My sister in laws name is Joie and she hated growing up with a boys name for a girl. She always tells her mom she should have made it her middle name. She is 37 years old and still a little bitter everytime she has to explain to someone that is her real name and not a nickname.
