Re:What do you teach your children?

1. What are the top five morals you attempt to instill in them?

A. Honesty. My granny taught me that even a white lie is still a lie.
B. Respect. For authority, peers, strangers, the environment, animals and the law.
C. Being true to one's self.
D. Moderation. In every aspect of their life. There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing.
E. Generosity.

2. What rules/boundaries will you have in your household when your child/children are teenagers?

A. There will be a curfew.
B. I will not have a brand spanking new car sitting in the driveway the morning of their 16th birthday. First of all I can't afford that, and second because no 16 year old deserves that. What kind of lesson does that teach an already impressionable teen if you hand them everything. What ever happened to working for what you get? I will help pay for a nice used car and we will negotiate payments and insurance IF and only if they have money saved and/or a job. This also depends upon school performance/grades.
C. Dating will begin at the age that my (soon-to-be) husband and I decide they are ready. If it's 15 for one child and 17 for another then so be it. Respect is given, but trust is earned.
D. No drugs EVER. And no alcohol/cigarettes until they are legally of age. Although I will discourage both.
E. Opinions are always welcome and will be taken into consideration. But as long as they live under our roof, mom and dad's word is law.

3. Why are these your top morals and your rules/boundaries? (what source have you got these from, eg. your parents, the bible, the media etc)
A. Because these are the morals that I feel would help my children become well adjusted individuals.
B. Because I was raised in a household where pretty much anything and everything was ok as long as you didn't kill yourself while doing it. That is why I ended up with 3 babies before I was 20. Live and learn.
C. My granny was very influential in my life and taught me some things that my mother never did. Even though there was a point in my teen years where I thought I knew it all and didn't need anyone's advice, I now cherish her words of wisdom. And they have gotten me through every tough situation I've faced.

4. Top 10 list of occupations that you would NOT like your child/children to have (would you please be able to seperate these into genders?).

As long as it's not stripper, streetwalker or drug dealer, I'm good with any career path my children choose as long as they are being the best they can be and not settling for just any random job because of laziness.

5. Top 10 list of occupations that you WOULD like your child/children to have (again- gender defined).

Basically, same as above. My wishes for my childrens career goals probably won't coincide with their own therefore, I will try to help them decide what path is best for them and where their passions are.

6. Will you teach your children/child religion? If so- what religion? Why?

"Religion" seems too impersonal a term for me. I will teach my children what I believe in my heart to be right. I will also teach them to follow after what they believe is the right choices for them as far as personal faith. I am a Christian (Baptist) and my children and I attend church regularly but I will also try to encourage them to figure out what God and The Bible mean to them on a personal level.

1. What are the top five morals you attempt to instill in them?

HONESTY.
Independence.

2. What rules/boundaries will you have in your household when your child/children are teenagers?

No rap. This out of anything my parents taught me probably had the most effect on me.
No drugs, alcohol, or general idiocy.
If you go out with someone, the first date is dinner at my house. No exceptions.
Grades before anything. Try your best.
No tattoos, no hair dying, no piercings except for girls and ears.

3. Why are these your top morals and your rules/boundaries? (what source have you got these from, eg. your parents, the bible, the media etc)

Parents... parents... parents...

4. Top 10 list of occupations that you would NOT like your child/children to have (would you please be able to seperate these into genders?).

I don't really care. They can do and be whatever they want to do and be. It's their life.

5. Top 10 list of occupations that you WOULD like your child/children to have (again- gender defined).

Ditto.

6. Will you teach your children/child religion? If so- what religion? Why?

Yes. Mine. Catholicism/Christianity. You are Catholic until you are old enough to decide for yourself. i.e., when you move out.

Good way to make a child hate their religion.

1. What are the top five morals you attempt to instill in them?

A. Honesty
B. Integrity
C. Empathy
D. Kindness
E. Passionate

2. What rules/boundaries will you have in your household when your child/children are teenagers?

1. (Most Important) I will always know their whereabouts
2. Do their very best in school -- even if they're not A students.
3. Piercings, ect. are OK -- but they'll have to have a conversation with me being doing it.
4. Bedroom door stays open when they have friends of the opposite sex are over -- I remember those days!

These rules will stay regardless, but other rules will be made once I know what kind of teenager my son -- and any other children we have -- will be!

3. Why are these your top morals and your rules/boundaries? (what source have you got these from, eg. your parents, the bible, the media etc)

These are the morals I live by, who I got from my sister and her husband. And the rules/boundaries are what will help shape those morals!

4. Top 10 list of occupations that you would NOT like your child/children to have (would you please be able to seperate these into genders?).

There are not 10 occupations that I would NOT want my children to have. Nothing illegal, of course. And gender shouldn't matter regarding occupations.

5. Top 10 list of occupations that you WOULD like your child/children to have (again- gender defined).

As long as they're happy, I'll be proud.

6. Will you teach your children/child religion? If so- what religion? Why?

Once my son is old enough, I will teach him about several different religions, and let him follow his heart. My husband and I do not practice any religion.

I don't believe in WAY strict parenting. It always backfires. On the other hand, people have to be careful in remembering that you are not their friend, you're their mother/father.

1. What are the top five morals you attempt to instill in them?
1. Honesty.
2. Respect.
3. Cleanliness.
4. Don't waste.
5. Life isn't fair.

2. What rules/boundaries will you have in your household when your child/children are teenagers?
1. Let me know where you are so I know you're safe.
2. Do whatever you want with your body, it's yours not mine, just call me if you're going to do something stupid. (Like getting a tattoo on your face.)
3. Do your best in school.
4. Be home at curfew.
5. Tell me your opinions. Let me know if I make you mad so we can talk about it and work everything out. Communication is key.
6. Be honest with me. It will get you in less trouble.

3. Why are these your top morals and your rules/boundaries? (what source have you got these from, eg. your parents, the bible, the media etc)
I think they're important to do/know.

4. Top 10 list of occupations that you would NOT like your child/children to have (would you please be able to seperate these into genders?).
1. Drug dealer.
2. Prostitute.
3. Stripper.
4. Taxi Driver.
5. Gas Station Attendant.

Anything other than those is fine.
Because those are all dangerous jobs that I don't approve of and will discourage. They have brains and they'll sure as hell use them. Those five go for both genders.

5. Top 10 list of occupations that you WOULD like your child/children to have (again- gender defined).
As long as it isn't listed above, I'm fine with it.

6. Will you teach your children/child religion? If so- what religion? Why?
No, I will not. For one, I'm not religious so I wouldn't know how to teach them diddly-squat. Two, I want my children to choose whether or not they want to follow a particular religion. I don't want to force religion on them.
