choccie bikkies!
By Shann 1 Year, 10 Months Ago
The other day my partner's mum gave Noah (8 months old) a timtam. I was soo annoyed! I didnt want him having chocolate yet! Am I over reacting? I thought it would have been nice for his first birthday to be his first time but now that's been taken away. I had it all thought out... photos of him on his first birthday with his first chocolate all over his face... She should have asked first.

Yeah, it's so annoying when they do stuff like that.

Oh my goodness I know just how you feel. Hubby's mother does this kind of thing also. When she stayed for the weekend not so long ago she put sugar on Keeva's weetbix and I said 'no she doesn't need sugar, I don't ever let her have it' but she just laughed what I said off and fed her it anyway. I was so annoyed and when I confronted hubby about it later on he just said that it wasn't a big deal, BUT it is to me- she's just a baby and she actually loves it without the sugar and I don't want her having unhealthy foods so early on in her life.

You're not over reacting at all!

Your not over reacting.

My oldest sister does things like that with Mason. She gives him tea with two sugers in, she dips his dummy in it and gives it to him. She feeds him a whole bar of the small milky-ways, even when my sister(Mason's mam) tells her not to. All she says is that it wont hurt him. It really gets me annoyed, he shouldn't be eating so much sugary foods at his age. So, now I don't think your over reacting atall.

You're not overreacting. No, it probably won't hurt him, but it certainly isn't going to help him either.

You are so NOT overreacting! I would be very upset about that as well! I'm sorry your plans for him to have his first chocolate on his birthday got ruined. That's irritating! She really should have asked.
Like you, I plan on not giving my baby any sugar until he has his first birthday and then I will give him some cake. I don't want my child to grow up asking for unhealthy, sugary snacks at a young age and develop a life-long sugar addiction. That's what happened to me. My grandparents (against my mom's wishes) gave me coke and sweet tea in my bottle and fed me little bits of chocolate and stuff like that whenever I stayed with them. And by the time I was a toddler I wanted a coke and a candy bar as a snack instead of fruit or something healthy. I still have a sweet tooth to this day and it's a very hard habit to break! So, I plan on breaking this cycle with my child. I'm not going to fuss over everything he puts in his mouth, but I want to make sure that I teach him healthy eating habits early so they will stick with him (hopefully!) for the rest of his life.
