I haven't tried him without it yet, but I think it's a comfort thing for him and it seems to put him to sleep as soon as he is wrapped! He must be a really content baby. I don't know if there would be an "issue" if you all of a sudden didn't swaddle him. Maybe just each day make it a little less tight?
