Re:Your tips for naming a baby

For my husband and I's first baby I had a list of my 3 favorite names and let him pick which one he liked best. With the second and third I had a long list of single names and we picked our favorites and I made combos from those. Then we discussed the combos we liked best and tweaked them a little to please both of us. Sort of....

If we have any more kids I think I'm going to ask my hubby for suggestions of names he likes, add them to my list then go through and keep only the names I could live with. Then have both of us go through the list separately and pick our favorite 15-20 names. The names that end up on both our lists I'd keep then we rate the remaining names from our top 20 and the ones with the highest combined score make the list until there's 15-20 names. Make combos from those names, and figure out which ones work best.

With names, I just like to think about who he/she will be as a person. That's what I do for my stories. A girl character named Ashton may end up as a tomboy, and a boy character named Francis may end up as a wimp.

Personally, I think names that are a bit uncommon are cool. Of course, it's easy to go over the top, But try not too! Names like Anne are a bit boring (no offence!) but names like Rover are just... Weird? So I'd suggest going with a normal name (like Daisy) and tweak the spelling- just a little bit- (Daysi)... Is this spelling really weird? Or with a UNIQUE-BUT-NOT-2-UNIQUE name like Cara. Anyway, just remember that, though it's ultimately your decision, the kids' got to go through their whole life with THAT NAME.
