well in my opinion i would say its better to know.. just because that way you already know what ur having and what to expect later on when u finally have ur baby! i thought of waitin also but i just cant.. im too impatient so i know i cant wait.. but i also find it somewhat fun and exciting to wait.. so pretty much all there is to do is talk about it with ur partner and figure it out together! It is so refreshing to hear so many of you value correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc., as well as reading comprehension and good penmanship! Hooray! I'm not totally weird!

I have heard that around here if the teacher "gets to it", s/he may actually teach cursive in the 3rd, 4th, 5th grade. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but a friend of mine said her fourth grader was just now learning it. I always thought you were supposed to learn cursive in 3rd grade.

I like the pen license idea!

Also, I totally agree with the statement on thank-you notes.

By the way, I still refuse to even use a cell phone.

Well I know that in most schools in Illinois, they start teaching cursive in 2nd grade and they'll have students write everything in cursive until they get to high school. I used to hate writing in cursive in grade school but I think my cursive is a lot easier to read than my manuscript so I hardly write anything in manuscript anymore I agree that it should still be taught in school and it should be a main subject. The school I went to actually had a whole class period (about 40 minutes) just for writing in manuscript and in cursive and we would get a grade for it on our report cards.

As for the cell phones, I actually do use "text talk" since I have one of those phones that will only let you write about 160 characters in a text. I don't go overboard with it, though, and I definitely won't write or talk that way if I have a choice.
