I'm so going to get backlash for saying this.

If that happened to me when I was younger I don't think my dad would of had too much of a different reaction then that lady did, actually I know he wouldn't of. My dad would of just taken me and told you "thank you" and thats it and then tell me I had what was coming to me! (That makes my dad sound horrible but I swear he's not. If there was a "World's Best Dad" award he should definitely win) Plus I would of gotten into trouble for wondering off in the first place. I use to wonder off a lot whenever we went out that's how I know what my dad would of done. And if Sophie did something like that when she was 5 my reaction probably wouldn't be any different to how my dad would of handeled it.

Gracie, there is still a difference in what you or your dad would have done---you would have said "thank you". I actually did think with that lady's response that she may have been so embarrassed and/or scared that that is maybe why she acted how she did, but still, she could have said thank you at least. True, the child should not have wandered off; there's always a balance to strike isn't there? The mom should be watching, the child should be behaving.

She is probably pissed that you interupted her ultra-late term abortion. People that don't give a damn shouldn't have kids. It is a sick world out there and that little boy could have been the next Shawn Hornbeck and that lady would probably have been happy to have the "burden" taken off of her shoulders.

Trust me - it wasn't like that. I've tried to write this a few times to explain it, but I really can't. I was there and had a clear read on her reaction. She was more annoyed by the ordeal than embarrassed or worried. I would have accepted and understood embarrassed... she wasn't. She was apathetic.

The grocery store that I am talking about isn't your typical grocery store. It's a TINY neighborhood deli and grocery. There is literally NO WAY she didn't hear him wailing at the front of the store from where she was. Everyone else in the store heard it and came up to see what was going on. Everyone except the boys mother.

And I also have to say, even if I am perceiving this wrong, and she had done her very best to watch him and the boy still wondered off (which absolutely does happen), her first priority should have been to comfort him. It was VERY clearly a traumatic experience for him. Yes, he should certainly be spoken with about his actions that led to that situation, but you can't just ignore the child's needs in that case. Maybe I'm wrong... I don't know.

Wow, that's terrible that she was like that. Poor little fella.

If the grocery store was that small, then she probably had either a serious hearing issue or was just trying to get attention. IMO.
