By J_Anne 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago Have any of you used an AC in your baby's room? We don't have central AC but we live in Arizona and it's HOT. I'd like to put in a portable AC in the nursery because it's more affordable. Is that safe?

Re:Cooling Down Baby's Room By ReenaC 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago I would put a window unit in a nearby room and point a fan into the baby's room. An AC unit is loud and the air is quite sharp (sharp air? I don't know any other way to put it, though, so sharp it is). I have a small unit in my bedroom window and it gets icy in there fast.

Re:Cooling Down Baby's Room By emily. 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago Keeping the blinds drawn helps with keeping the hot out and maybe a little portable fan would help, they don't make too much noise can circulate the air.

Re:Cooling Down Baby's Room By Shann 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago Air from Ac units can be quite dry, and it might cause too much of a "draft type" air flow for your baby. I would use a portable fan if you can find one that isn't noisy.

Re:Cooling Down Baby's Room By Angeldolllogic 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago Just to let you know, I'm in Texas. It's so hot here it's like we're melting...and it's only June! I truly believe people would be bursting into flames in August if not for the 100% humidity!
So..I've been to Arizona...needed a huge humidifier put in my hotel room to keep my skin from peeling off...really. I don't see how you can live there without AC! Babies are especially suseptible to the heat because their bodies are unable to regulate their cooling system. Not to be rude, but the people who are saying to get only a fan have obviously never been to the southern U.S. in the summer. Get a window unit that has a thermostat. Make sure you measure first to get the proper size unit for your square footage. Don't put the baby directly in the air path. If you can, get a unit big enough for the entire house and leave the doors open as Reena suggested. Look at Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, etc., you might find one on sale. Businesses are desperate for paying customers right now because of the recession. When you find one you like ask for a better price. It doesn't matter if it's on sale or not, just ask. Lowes is really good about doing this here...just try. Take care, and I'll be praying for you guys. Good luck! Last Edit: 2011/06/17 15:46 By Angeldolllogic.

By J_Anne 11 Months, 2 Weeks Ago Thanks for all the input guys, esp. @angeldollogic, you're so sweet! I really don't think a fan is gonna cut it though... as she said, it's ridiculous here. I'm looking at a Sharp model that is supposed to be quiet. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm just looking at an "editors pick" page I found on Google, that's about as much as I know about this stuff -- let me know if you think one of these is better than another! http://www.air-n-water.com/AC-recommended.html
