A odd question but...
By unique names 10 Months, 1 Week Ago
Hi ladies I was wondering if you girls could help me out.
My problem (so to speak), is that I'm 19, soon to be 20 in October, and I look really young.(I look like I'm 12 ) I have a little sister who is 15 and we get told very often that she looks older then us,(that is my twin sister and I).
I get asked my age everywhere that I go, all the time. I sometimes buy scratch tickets, and I olny went to the bar, casino, and bingo once and got asked for my ID, but the part that bothers me is when I show them my license they still don't believe me. When I'm out with my baby cousin, she's 2, people look at us funny. I even got asked my age at the swimming pool once!
I'm going into my second year of university and I'm wondering what I can do style/dress wise to look a little older. I don't like wearing dress's, tight/reveling clothes, or track/sweat pants. I usually wear my hair in a pony tail and don't wear make-up. I wear jeans, plain shirts and cardigans.
I know some of you ladies are my age and mothers, how do you mange to look your age or 'look' like a mom?
Could this be why people my age never apporach me? Boys included. I seem to get along with children extremely well, my Ma thinks it's because of my size and young apperance.
Any adivce or help would be greatly useful!! Thanks ladies!!

I can understand why this is bothering you at the age of 20 - when you're young you never want to look younger than your age, but trust me when you hit 28/29 you'll be grateful for the youthful looks and want to make them last a little longer!
I'm 28 turning 29 in October and I notice the lines by my eyes now more and more and wish they'd just disappear

All I could really think of telling you, is to maybe try a bit of make-up out, there is absolutely no need to over-do it if you don't like it. Put on a little coat of mascara, a fairly neutral shade of eye-shadow and a little gloss... I don't wear a lot of make-up myself but mascara is my 'staple' make-up product, never go anywhere without it on. I don't like a lot of foundation at all either but you do get tinted moisturizer which you might want to try, just to give a slight appearance of make-up and evens out the skin tone as well.

I think the pony-tail might also give a bit of a 'girlish' look... so try leaving it loose occassionaly, or try out a different way of putting it up - ie. messy bun etc.

I'm also a denim and tee kinda girl... comfort is better in my opinion. Maybe go for a t-shirt that sits closer to your body as apposed to loose ones? Denims that also hug your figure more... in winter wear long boots (flat ones) over skinny denims. Buy a jacket that is a bit more tailored. In summer wear pumps / sandals with denims.

It is quite hard to say without really knowing what you look like and seeing your dress style... but try a few things out, change is always good but the most important thing is that you need to be comfortable with it. You'll learn what suits you and what doesn't.

Hope I have helped in some small way...

Thanks! I'm 5'1 and 120-125 pounds, so I'm a bit big for skinny jeans. lol. But I'm going to get some make-up and try something different with my hair. I usually wake up, get showered, dressed, and fix my hair, ect in about 30 mins. So I will try to take more time on myself in the morning. Who would have figured I'd need to put so much effort into looking my age! I tried to post a picture of me, let's see if it works!
( I took the photo off )
I DID IT!!! lol, I'm so proud of my self, the past 3 hours I've spent looking up how to do this has paid off! (I'm a dork)
Ok, so the picture is from June 2010, my grad. The one in the middle is my younger sister by 5 years. I'm kind of dolled up a bit here.
BTW do Lazlow and I look alike?
I'm going to take the photo down in a few hours though.

- I agree with wearing a little bit of make-up, especially mascara, and possibly usuing some bronzer to contour your face.
- Also, if you don't already, shaping your eyebrows can really help! They frame your face and having them waxed professionally may be the way to go if you don't know where to start.
- Another thing you could try is wearing your hair down and curling it if you have naturally straight hair, or straightening it if you have curly hair.
- You could try wearing slightly more "sophisticated" clothing if you wanted, such as dress pants and some cute ballet flats and a more fitted top, but if you want to stick with the more casual clothing, you could try the slightly more figure hugging pieces, as Jadis suggested
- A new haircut may also help, if you want a new look!

I hope some of these help, good luck!

Skinny jeans aren't just for skinny people. I wear skinny jeans and I'm not thin, anything but. But I'm healthy, that's all that matters.

I think you need to add shape to yourself. Maybe by accentuating your hips and breasts could help in making you look older.

Getting a haircut to fit your face may also help.

I also don't wear a lot of makeup but like Jadis said, mascara is also my staple. I have to wear it every day even if I'm at home.

Getting some size appropriate clothing is best, and I love jackets and scarves together. Scarves are very fashionable at the moment, whether its with a jacket or with a nice dress.

That image didn't work, try uploading it to your profile so we can see it and help you even more.

I have typed my response up about 10 different times trying to figure out what to say because I don't want to tell you how you should dress or look. But for starters it's a miracle what a little make up and switching hair styles can do and changing your wardrobe a little can do. Im 19 and also look about 13-14 and when I put make up on I pass for 16-17! With my family genetics that will never change.. both my parents are mid to late 30s and pass for mid 20s..

I'm just going to tell you what I do and a few pointers I've learned through modelling and my love for fashion.. I also love jeans I own about 30 pairs of them. For jeans the trick is to dress your body. I'm 5'6-5'7 and weigh about 50 kilos and I run across the problem of them fitting my waist and being too short or being to big on my waist but perfect in length. Find a brand(s) that fit waist and length while accentuating your curves or whatever the body style..

When I do my own make up I try not to go over board. Im weird in foundation so that's hard to explain. During the day how about some mascara and lip gloss? I like to wear eye liner too and when I go out at night or date night with Rhys I like to put some eye shadows on. Depends on the place I go depending on how I wear my eye shadow and the colour. Make up us tricky though what looks good on one person may look horrible in another.. you can always go to a store that will show you what works best for your face..

For my hair I rarely wear it up in a ponytail unless I'm at the gym or running or sometimes for dance if I'm being lazy. I'm all for doing different things with my hair... This is a hard one for me to explain since I'm so wishy washy with my hair. I'm always doing different styles and hair-dos. My hair is long and I personally look older with curls although I do straighten it about half the time.. but I would (if you don't already) try a haircut maybe that highlights your face.

My clothes are also lots of different styles. I love cute, flirty, and summery clothes. I love vintage inspired. I love jeans, I love shirts and dresses and cute strappy shoes or some cute pumps for during the day.. at night if I'm going out I go for the more sexy clothes.. my best advice is wear fitting clothes but it doesn't need to look like you are trying to wear clothes for a 5 year old. Wear things that work for your body style, that highlight what you want to show but cover what you don't want to see..

Most importantly dress what you want to dress like and what makes you feel comfortable. I would try going out of the box a little to what you normally wear and how you do your hair and make up but whatever you choose you need to feel sexy and good about yourself! If you decide you want to change what you wear, your hair and make up remember it will take some time to get use to! Good luck and be yourself!!
