By Nellieag 9 Months, 1 Week Ago My daughter,Noah has recently been tested for food allergies and she is allergic to pistachio nuts. I'm worried she'll have to sit separately from her fellow classmates especially because she's going to a new school, I'm really worried she wont solidify bonds with any of the kids. I contacted the vice principal of the school and she said she could arrange for it to be pistachio free classroom, I'm nervous.
I don't want my child to be like a bubble kid or something...

Re:Food Allergies By StineFae 9 Months, 1 Week Ago Hello
I'm allergic to apples, carrots, peanuts, soya and pollen and I was never a bubble kid. Even though I couldn't be outside in the spring because of allergies. I really don't thing you should worry about her not making friends becase of one food allergy. Especially not Pistachio nuts.

Re:Food Allergies By Colbi 9 Months, 1 Week Ago First of all - love the name! Noah is one of my favorite girl names! We are naming our daughter Micah
Anyways... My cousin adopted a boy who has a rather severe peanut allergy, but for the most part he is able to live a very normal childhood. Elementary (or Primary) schools are usually pretty great about making special accommodations for children with different needs. She'll have to be a bit more careful about the foods she comes in contact with - but she shouldn't have to be segregated from her classmates during lunchtime. Pistachio nuts aren't crazy common in other foods, which is a positive here. I think the best thing is to educate Noah and her teachers the best you can - this way, when you're not able to be with her, she can better recognize foods that may be potentially harmful to her. Knowledge is power!

Re:Food Allergies By Celianne 9 Months, 1 Week Ago Pistachios aren't too common a snack for kids, she'll be fine. And if it isn't too severe, she just needs to know what they look like and remember to NOT touch it.

Re:Food Allergies By Polpettina 9 Months, 1 Week Ago Ditto Celie. I haven't eaten a pistachio in over a year. Lots of people, particularly kids, are allergic to unusual things, so she probably won't be alone.

By Nellieag 8 Months, 3 Weeks Ago Thank you Colbi, a lot of people don't get it, I've always loved Noah for a girl's name and I think it's so fitting on my little spunky girl.
They made her classroom nut free so we don't have to worry, at least for this year when her class still eats in their room for lunch.
