Just wondering.
By Ellyy 9 Months Ago
Hey everyone just wondering how you all pronounce everyday things espesially if your not from the United Kingdom but i'd still like to see what you pronounce different from me.
Partly because im going to America next summer hopefully if i can get the flight prices down so i know i will be an outcast against my family who live there.
But i'm just one curious girl.

xoxo, Elly.

Can you give some examples? I'm not sure I exactly understand what you're asking.

I have a lot of time on my hands right now...

If you really want American pronunciations, here you go... Just as a BTW every single R is said, and sharply. You could just use your Brit accent, people will most likely know what you're saying just fine...as long as American English is their first language. I'm pronouncing everything for you the way I say it.

fruit - froot
vegetables - veh-j-tuh-bullz
toilet - toy-lit
pencil - pen-sill
toothbrush - tooth-buh-ru-sh
mop - mop
pen - pen
television - usually everyone just says TV. tee-vee
radio - ray-dee-oh
phone - f-own
washing machine - waw-sching muh-sheen
book - bwook
picture frame - pit-cher-fraym
lamp - lah-mp
paper - pay-per
chair - ch-air
couch - kow-tch
sidewalk - s-eyed-wok
window - win-doe
clock - kuh-lok
bed - buh-ed
pillow - pill-oh
remote - ree-moat
soap - s-oap
fork - fork
spoon - spoon
knife - nyfe
plate - playt
bowl - b-wool
toothpaste - tooth-payst
shampoo - cham-poo
conditioner - kun-dish-in-er
mirror - mee-reer
keys - keez
wallet - wall-it
purse - puhurse
shirt - shuh-urt
pants - pahn-dz
shoes - sch-ooz
watch - waw-tch
bracelet - bray-ss-lit
cups - kupz
flowers - fuh-lahw-urz
trees - chuh-reez
computer - kum-pyoo-der
mp3 player - em-pee-thuh-ree-puh-lay-er
video games - vid-ee-oh gaymz
cars - karz
trucks - chuh-rukz
street lights - sch-reet lie-tz

I got these from a website. I'm not sure how correct the British parts are, I put my own American parts. Maybe this is more what you're looking for?

chips for you = French fries to me
crisps for you = chips to me
biscuits for you = cookies to me
Headmaster/Headmistress for you = Principal to me
cinema to you = movie theater to me (film is usually just movie)
postman to you = mailman to me
class to you = grade to me
parcel to you = package to me
flat to you = apartment to me
garage to you = gas station to me
lift to you = elevator to me
rubber to you = eraser to me
pram to you = stroller to me
dustbin to you = garbage can to me
timetable to you = schedule to me
Elastoplast to you = BandAid to me...

etc.etc.etc. I'm getting tired. Here's the link: http://www.hintsandthings.com/library/WORDS2.htm

Why are you worried, may I ask? =)

I understand you from reading your posts just fine. You don't use any cockney or Brit phrases I don't get. Ha, if I were you, I wouldn't worry.
