Ear Piercing? (1 viewing) (1) Guest
Ear Piercing? By xxZEBRA08xx 8 Months, 1 Week Ago Hey All,
Firstly, i know that this may cause a few heated responses, all i ask is that you are honest but respectful of myself and each other I’m seeking your opinions and in essence advice on a little discussion I have been having with my Son. Ryan turned 3 on 11th September and for about 6/7 months now he has been asking to get his ears pierced. At the moment I have told him “mummy and Max (my fiancée who has raised him for nearly all his life) will talk about it” however he is very insistent that he wants them pierced. I’m not against piercings because if he changes his mind and takes it out, it will close up. Also I have a few piercings myself, Max has his ears and nipple pierced and Rye’s godfather Tom also has his ears pierced. So I can understand why he has asked because he is used to seeing them. Max has said he doesn’t have anything against him getting his ears pierced as long as I am happy for him to have it. I have spoken to Rye about what happens during the piercing and the aftercare and the pain/risks etc. We have watched many (appropriate) videos on youtube where children have had their ears pierced.I also took him with my friend and i when she had her 3 month old daughters' ears pierced so he is very aware of what it entails and i am certain that he is mature enough to handle it, i am just requesting social opinions really. I have discussed this with my parents and my friends and I have had mixed responses. Some of them have said let him have it because if he is asking then he obviously wants it. Others have said they don’t like piercings full stop and others have said that he is too young. What is your opinion? If anyone has been in this situation themselves, what was your final decision? Thank you in advance Zoe Last Edit: 2011/10/21 07:46 By xxZEBRA08xx.

Re:Ear Piercing? By Auntieofsix 8 Months, 1 Week Ago Will this be one ear or both ears? I'm a little confused that's why I'm asking
I think that if he's asking to have them done himself, even after watching videos, seeing someone have them done and the talks, then I think maybe you should let them have them done. The only time that I don't like piercings is when little babies have them done, because they can't ask to have them done themselves.

Re:Ear Piercing? By Gracie1 8 Months, 1 Week Ago I'd let him.
No matter what people are going to judge you for letting your children do things. My baby is a girl and I've received a few negative comments about getting her ears done. (She's 8.5 months). If I ever had a son and he wanted his ears pierced, I'd more then willingly let him, if I thought he could handle them If you think your son is mature enough and knows he's going to have to take care of them, and you don't mind, let him. It's not going to cause any harm, (except a few seconds of pain) just make sure he's cleaning them properly twice a day (or whatever they recommend. It was twice for my daughter)

Re:Ear Piercing? By Meaghan C. 8 Months, 1 Week Ago I, personally, won't be getting my kids' (daughters' or son's) done until they're older. My oldest is almost 5 right now. My reasoning is that at this point it would just be another thing for me to take care of for them. I also know that I have a skin allergy to most types of metals and I don't want to risk them having the same problem and getting infected because of it. Plus, the types of metals I have to use are more expensive and I'm not buying them for my kids until I know they're responsible enough to not lose them and to take care of them properly on their own. My kids haven't yet asked about it so I'm not going to worry about it too much until they do.
That's just my personal view, though, but if you really think your 3-year-old is mature and responsible enough to have them done then by all means go ahead and let him do it.
