I'm fine with children/babies having ears pierced, I had mine done when I was a baby, the thing I think you have to really think about though is how his school will take it. As he's 3 he's obviously not in school and by the time school comes around anything could have happened resulting in him not wearing earring(s) but if he still has them then you have to have two things in mind;
1) Will the school allow it
2) Will he be bullied for it.

Look into schools that you're considering putting him in to get to know their policy on it.
If he goes to daycare/kindergarten you should be able to get a bit of a feel as to how other kids will react to them as well as their parents. Remember though that children his age are generally more accepting of differences than school kids.

Thank you for this advice, but i am lucky enough to have inside info into schools as i am a teacher myself, so this is in an issue i have already dealt with

Although this topic has pretty much already been covered, I thought I'd throw in my two cents!

Although I don't mind piercings on males (at all)... I DO mind piercings on children - particularly babies/toddlers. It is my personal opinion that children should not have any piercings until they are much older - at least 13. After all, it is body modification. Maybe less extreme than some other modifications...but it's a modification none-the-less. It irks me beyond belief when people pierce their baby's ears.

This is a strange opinion for me, since I'm not AT ALL conservative. (I'm far left on most moral/social issues). It just bothers me.

My mom got my ears pierced when I was 6 months old, and I am so grateful. I haven't been able to keep any other piercing because I developed an allergy later in life. But since my first piercing was done at such a young age, they are set, the wont close and don't get irritated at all, they are just part of my body.

I got mine pierced two years ago (when I was 10) and I think that is a reasonable age.

i dont think hes old enough but thats my opinion. ive never had my daughters done and shes nearly 3. i think when they are old enough i was aprox 8 years old when i had mine done but unfortunately they will never take and i end up with painful ears ect. we will think about letting her have it done if she asks when she is around 10. but everyone is different. i personaly dont like babys or young children with ears pearced.
