Ear Piercing? (1 viewing) (1) Guest
Re:Ear Piercing? By Alisamber 8 Months, 1 Week Ago Ditto MC's first paragraph. Although this was not my first thought, good grief, isn't it enough for you to feed, bathe, teach, and entertain him? Laundry, housework, play dates, etc, etc, etc? I would not want to have to clean pierced ears on a 3yr old 2-3 times a day for 6 wks on top of clipping nails, picking up toys, cutting hair, giving vitamins, and playing puppets. Is your avatar of your kids? You have a baby on top of that?
My very first thought was I don't think any children should get their ears pierced until they are 8 yrs old or older. For one, it's more their choice then. Secondly, they can take care of it better. Thirdly, they should not be so concerned about their looks until closer to their teen years, why do they need to bother with a silly accessory to get clothes snagged on, lost, hurt their ears if pulled/pushed on in a rough way while playing, etc. And probably other reasons why I would rather people wait til they're older. My next thought (please, people, don't blast me for being old-fashioned, it's my opinion which I should be able to share) is that you want to pierce your boy's ears? Is nothing separate these days for males and females? All these girls are being given boy names, and boys are being pierced, etc. Now, I am not judging you on it, that's just me and my culture. Then when I read that Max and Tom have their ears pierced, I thought, oh, well, that must be where he's getting the idea and wants to be like them. I have never heard of a 3yr old begging to get ears pierced. Anyway, even with the men having it, I would still advise in postponing it. Just a little extra info: I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 16. I was kind of a tomboy and didn't care much about jewelry, makeup, etc. I still can go without all that. In fact, I just got my ears pierced on Saturday because I have not worn earrings in years (when my kids were little I didn't want them pulling on them, etc) and the holes had closed. Also, I am not a fan of piercing in general, but I do think one pair of earrings on a female can look nice. About the comments you've had to let him because obviously he wants it, I would not go with that. My kids may want to eat 5 bags of Cheetos and stay up til midnight, but that doesn't mean I should or would let them just because they beg me enough. Anyway, I hope that helps to have my view and that you won't be offended by my view, but accept it as valid.

Re:Ear Piercing? By Meaghan C. 8 Months, 1 Week Ago Yeah, my views are pretty much the same as Alisamber, personally, but you've got the right to decide what's best for your own child.
I just thought I'd add that I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 13, even though I'd been asking my parents for them pretty much since I'd started school and saw all the other little girls with pretties in their ears. My parents had decided that they didn't think I would really be responsible enough to take care of them until then and that I wasn't old enough to know whether or not I really wanted it done. When I did get it done it was more special to me than if I'd had it done when I was younger. It was kind of a coming-of-age type moment that made me feel like my parents really thought I was "grown up".

Re:Ear Piercing? By ReenaC 8 Months, 1 Week Ago What if he wants to drive tomorrow, because you drive and Max drives, are you going to buy him a car? What if next week it's a tattoo?
It is up to you to decide what is right and wrong for him, because at 3 years old, he has no idea of consequences, pain, responsibilty, or any of the other things that come with a piercing (infections, scarring, and future teasing being a few bad ones). Me personally, I wouldn't let a 3 year old boy get pierced. Male piercing is a fad that comes and goes.

Re:Ear Piercing? By unique names 8 Months, 1 Week Ago I say go for it. It's not really that much of an extra task or anything. And you can't really say o he wants a tattoo next so are you going to let him cause he wants it. We are talking about a three year old who knows the concept of pain and suffering well enough to remember. You usually pierce their ears before they turn one when they wont remember or have anything to be scared of. I think it's really wrong to say boys can't have ear piercing's. What's wrong with them? Us ladies want equality to men we want what they have and now we are saying oh wait you can't have what we have? This is 2011 after all. as for the girls stole boys names and vise versa I looked up a bit of the names and alot of the so called stolen names actually started off as the other gender then was switched. Ex valerie was a boys name then a girls name. Now it's kind of being used for a boys name again along with Ashley, Logan, Lindsay ect. I don't get why it's not socially acceptable for boys to have pierced ears. Hate to say it but it won't turn them gay if that's what you ladies are hinting at. ( like alot of people say) other wise please tell me why, is it a religious thing for you ladies?

[quote] Actually, like I said, I don't advocate anyone piercing anyone's anything until the client is at least 8 yrs old. I don't even like to see baby girls with earrings. But there are people in my "circle" who do this. [quote] Us ladies want equality to men we want what they have and now we are saying oh wait you can't have what we have? This is 2011 after all. [quote] As a matter of fact, I don't want what men have as a whole. I think this is a lot of what is sad about our society these days. But this is a whole other topic that I don't have time to get into. [quote] as for the girls stole boys names and vise versa I looked up a bit of the names and alot of the so called stolen names actually started off as the other gender then was switched. Why can't there be boy names and girl names? QUOTE: Generally speaking, I don't think it's a good idea to punch holes in your body. Like I said, it's such a tradition for women to have pierced ears, that I am okay with that one pair, but I don't see the appeal or beauty in more than that. I didn't say anything about being gay. It's partly a religious thing for me and partly just a personal preference for me.
