Nap time for 4 yr old?
By happy2bme 1 Year, 7 Months Ago
For parents of preschool age kids, I was just wondering, do yours still take naps? My son, who will be 5 in two weeks, REFUSES to nap during the day. I make him lay down in his room, and he used to be good about napping but now he thinks of EVERY excuse..."I've got to go the bathroom", "I'm scared", "my foot itches" or he talks to himself, sings, makes noises, does whatever to stay awake! It is driving me nuts! I know he is tired, and by the end of the day he is so irritable. He won't sleep at first when he lays down at preschool, either, but his teacher did say he will eventually go to sleep for a little while (he HAS to lay still and quiet there). Tonight he is going to bed as soon as he eats supper and gets a bath, which will be about 7:00. I don't know if this will break it or not. I'm just tired of it. Any suggestions?

My four year old does not need naps anymore, so instead of fighting I give him quiet time instead.... a movie or some books or something like that. I find that when my older son had naps up until he started school (almost 5 and a half due to being in daycare) he had a hard time adjusting to school. Maybe he doesnt need naps anymore? Hope this helps!

My oldest daughter will be 5 in January, but she hasn't really had any set nap time since she was probably 3&1/2. She'll take one if she needs one really bad, but otherwise I don't stress it too much. Once she stopped napping, though, she got a slightly earlier bed time to kind of balance it out. We do still have quiet time for her when her younger brother and sister are napping, though. She can sit and play quietly or read books or color or watch a movie as long as she's being quiet.

My son is 5 and when he is not in school I make him take a nap. He is so whiney if he doesn't. He does fight me about it though. It takes awhile for him to fall asleep but he eventually does. He does not always fall asleep for me, but the quiet time he spends in his room seems to relax him.
