I find this thread quite funny because when we had our first son we wanted something different as our last name is Smith. I had seen the name JACOBI written down and asked the owner how it was pronounced because I read it as JACOB-EE but she told me it was pronounced JA - KO - BEE So when we had our son we decided to make sure no one would think it was pronounced like JACOB with a long e at the end by adding the apostrophe. When people ask we simply say it's KOBEE with a J sound at the start but we honestly don't get asked all that often.
