My husband wants to name our 5th son Tallen. I have struggeled with this name because Talon (the original spelling is an eagle claw and also the Eagle Talon car).

He says he wants to spell it Tallen, but to me that sounds like Tall - in. Like Collin, but with a T.

He has had this name on his list since our first son and I keep turning it down.

I feel like I should just get over myself and name our son Tallen, because it is our last child and he really really likes it.

I just REALLY hate it...and we don't go by middle names or short nick names in our house, what you are named you are named and that is final.

I hate this name. It doesn't sound good. It looks like Fallen, and I'd pronounce it that way. Also, will your baby be tall? Imagine a short guy named Tallen... Ugh.

Both you and your husband have to like the name. You say you "REALLY" hate it, so I don't think it's a good idea to just give in. I'm sure you guys can find something you both like.

If you really hate it then dont use it. You dont want to hate your sons name his whole life. What are your other childrens names? Maybe it doesnt even sound good with them.

and if you feel like you should be nice and let him have Tallen then compromise on it. No reason y you couldnt let it go for a middle name. that way its not a first name you will despise for life but he wont feel like he got the shaft on a name he adores. I think it would be a fair compromise but then again im not you or him.

I concur with the others. I am a big proponent of compromise, but there are exceptions to every rule. This is one of them. I would NEVER name a child something I HATED.
No matter what. We women have all kinds of tricks we can use...hehehehe ..USE THEM!

Many moons ago I wanted another baby. My hubby said no. I begged, pleaded, and he still said no. I was so determined....finally he said..."If you promise to name the boy Boris Igor and the girl Sudie May, youcan get pregnant."well for once, he shut me up!!
No way was I going to use those names.
He also never would allow me the name daniel because he went to school with a guy he hated named Danny.
In the end I won....5 years later I got my Daniel, not Boris, lool. I only had to promise he would never be called Danny, and 22 years later he has still never been called Danny, without being corrected.
