No way! Gabriel is an adorable name. he is just being stupid. you should go with gabriel, or at least try and make it the middle name

Hes just being immature He should be thankful that you even asked him but it sounds like you gonna raise these kids on your own so you should name them on your own too. do you know the sexes yet?

I have never thought of the name Gabriel as anything other than the Angel Gabriel and the comedian Gabe Kaplan. I think it is a grand name. But out of curiosity sake, I made a few phone calls, to a woman friend of mine, my 22 year old son, a 20 year old and a 19 years old, both male friends of the family.

My friend loved Gabriel, reminded her of the Archangel. My son said it didn't remind him or make him think anything about it other than he does not like the name and would never name his child that. The 20 year old said, reminds me of the angel. When asked if he would ever name a kid that he said, NO! It is too weird sounding.
Last, I asked the 19 year old, he said, it sounds like "Gay" to me. the kid would be teased. I do not like it.(Funny, because the young man himslef is gay.)

So, there you have it, 3 more young men who do not like the name. Maybe it is more a name that some of us women like.

On a positive note, my daughter's 2nd child was a micro-preemie. As she was on bed rest awaiting the birth, she said she knew chances are the baby will not live, so it would be either Gabriel for a boy or Gabrielle for a girl, after the angel.
She loved the significance. Thankfully the child lived, and we have Scott!!
Bottom line is, if you love a name, there is no way everyone is going to like it. So choose carefully a name you and the child will be proud to have for their entire life.

I didnt think of gay but it does sound better as a girls name.
