Now i havent given birth yet, thats still far away for me, but i dont think it really matters so long as you can enjoy your birth experience and the baby is born safely and healthy. Its a personal decsion each woman has the right to make for herself with the help of her husband and doctors. Good luck with ur choice.

As for me I was very happy to have an epidoral cus once your in that situation You want really know what you want. Especially since I was in labor for 27 hours I was so pleased to get an epidoral and it was very helpful since I had to push for 3 1/2 hours! I believe me now I really know what to expect im for sure going to get it again when I have another!

My husband and I took the Lamaze class when I was pregnant with our son. My plan was to just see how far I could go without pain medicine, because I didn't want anything if I didn't need it and could do without it. I was fine until I got to 5 1/2 cm. I wasn't in what I would call pain, it just felt like strong menstral cramps. But I began stalling and the nurse told me I needed pitocin to keep my contractions going. Well, I have heard pitocin is rough, even my Lamaze teacher said that women who plan to go "natural" may have to rely on pain meds if they have to have pitocin. My doctor had put the epiderual cathedar in at 4 cm, but wasn't going to give me the medicine till I asked for it. Well when she told me I needed pitocin, I guess I chickened out and told them to go ahead and give me the epiderual medicine before the pain even started. But I do wonder how long I could have gone if I had not asked for it then. I think the next time I will try to go longer without it just to see if I can. But there is nothing wrong with getting an epiderual. Our baby was born just fine, and I couldn't feel anything except the pressure of him coming out. I don't think it would have made any difference if I didn't have the medicine other than I am sure I would have been feeling lots of pain! Our son came out crying, and was very alert the first hour, and he latched on and nursed. And I was very aware of it all, so no, the epiderual did not change anything as far as that goes.

whats best for one person isnt best for everyone. i waited as long as i could without medication all 3 times. the first i made it to 6cm and then had demerol. the second i did all natural, but he was only 2lbs 12oz. the third i waited to 8.5 cm then had morphine. i was alittle sad that i had taken the drugs, but in the end all that matters is a healthy baby. good for you if you can go all natural, but remember that there is no gold star for doing it that way, and you will not be punished if you cant. either way they really are worth the pain.
