1- no, it's obviously not absolutely necessary, that's why there's a choice. however, it is more hygienic
2- yes, the doctor uses numbing !!
3- yes, it is common in my area (northeast, USA)
4- i DONT think its wrong. it doesnt prevent boys from anything in the future & it heals

I am Tesia and I am 30wks and 5dys pregnate with a son and I believe ever mom has the choice. I will definetly circumsize my son when he is born. The pediatrician of your choice normally does it the day after the baby is born and they give them a general anesthesia on their penis and some babies sleep right through the procedure. I was iffy on wether to have my son done too but I asked alot of guys who say they weren't circumsized if they could go back and change it and all of them said yes not one person said they were glad they werent circumsized. So I am taking the male advice that it is more of the "norm" for a boy to be circumsized.

Answers to your questions:

1. Is it ABESOULTY nessacariy? NO
2. Does your docter use any nummbing? DON'T KNOW
3. Is it common in your area? YES, BUT NOT SURE WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT. IF IT WERE COMMON TO CHOP OF ONE OF MY CHILDS TOES, I WOULDN'T DO THAT EITHER.
4. Do YOU think it's right? NO

I have 3 boys and they are all circumcised. My doc did it the day we went home from the hospital. They didn't have any probs. You have to make sure that the first few weeks you pull the skin down gently to keep it from reattaching, but then you just do it at baths. It is better to have it done at birth than to wait and if a pob arises they would have to do it later. By te way I have a 7 year old and it is hard enough to get him to wash under his armpits and between the toes, could you imagine if he also had the extra responsibility to wash that as well!! I know that I wouldn'y want to be the one to have to help him with that as he gets older!!!
