Re:Sleep walking?
By kaiababy 3 Years, 6 Months Ago
My oldest son, Cameron, 10, has been sleepwalking since he was five. I have read that sleepwalking occurs primarily in children that do not get enough sleep. Cameron has never been a good sleeper. As a baby, we called him P.U.K (pronounced "Puck", not Puke ), which is short for the Pop-Up-Kid. The moment he opened his eyes he was ready for action, and has never slept well since. I have three other children, and he is the only one who: a)sleepwalks, and b)probably does not get enough sleep. If you think this could be a cause, then try working on a better sleep schedule. Good luck!

I had a big scare with my oldest just under a year ago. We went on holiday to Marbella and stayed in a lovely hotel. We had been out for a meal with the children and we were all very tired when we got in so we put the kids to bed and went straight to sleep. We made sure everything was locked and we also shut our bedroom door so the childern could'nt get out. But then about 7 in the morning we heard a load of bangs and cries so we got up as quick as we can and Jake(our oldest then 3) was'nt in his bed, so i grabbed Dylan and followed my husband downstairs and we found Jake by the swimming pool crying because his teddy was in there. It scared the living daylights out of me and shook me up real bad.

What happened was the maid came in and though everyone was out and opened our bedroom door to see if we were there and we was so she left, leaving our bedroom door and the front door open and Jake must have got up and gone down by the pool with teddy(noo) and he must have chucked teddy in the pool and woke up. He can't remember how he got there and that is why he started crying. If we had'nt have got there in time god knows what could have happened to my baby. But needless to say we left 2 days later and are not going back to that hotel anymore. The maid was careless.

Nothing similar has happened since so i think were safe for the moment.
But i think you should definatly invest in something to warn you if your child is going anywere he shouldnt.

my sons do it, as did i as a kid..
i find it happens more in summertime when the days are longer and hotter and they dont get as much rest
that said, it also happens more often when they stress or are worried about something....
i have lock on all my exterior doors that i have the only key for hanging on a lanyard around my neck,
and secuity screens on all the windows, so there is no way they can get out..
like Genevra said, u just need to gently gently guide him back to bed, or maybe to the bathroom 1st if hes quite young,
i say this only coz my son has a tendency to do tings like walk to the TV stand and pee on the playstation, ((luckily it wasnt plugged in))
or in the fidge, ((that was fun to clean up)) but as its something he clearly has no control over i cannot get upset with him,
as genevra also said, dont make him feel ashamed of something he cant control..
it is very scary at times, but unless it is seriously effecting how much rest he gets, his performance during he day,
or he is endangering himself, i wouldnt worry too much, he will most likely grow out of it..

good luck

Seaason

Thank you for all those replies Seaasons. My sons luckily each had a bathroom off their bedrooms, so once the beeper was there, I truly felt comfortable, and safest, for my middle sons whereabouts. I was actually, also contemplating having a gps mechanism installed into his tooth, so I could track him - but thankfully, that did not need to be done. There are options out there, if parents would research, and do what needs to be done for the security on their child. And yes, I did have an intercom system, so I could check into their rooms, without invading their space.
